Four (4) fire extinguishers are provided on each floor.
They are housed in cabinets and look like the image to the left.
Additional extinguishers are located in the garage. All extinguishers are inspected and tested annually and certified to be in proper working order. These extinguishers are designed to extinguish most small fires that might occur in a residential setting involving paper, liquids (oil, grease) and electrical equipment.
To use a fire extinguisher:
- remove it from its wall box (pull firmly on the door handle to open the box),
- hold the extinguisher upright and pull the pin that otherwise prevents the trigger from being depressed (and emitting the extinguishing agent),
- position yourself between the fire and an exit. Do not allow yourself to be trapped. Prepare to evacuate.
- stand approximately 8 feet from the fire, hold the extinguisher with one hand while grasping the discharge hose with the other hand and depress the trigger,
- aim the flow of extinguishing agent at the base of the fire and sweep the hose side to side till the fire is extinguished.
