Hey! What happens when Richmond Manor Condominiums experiences a power outage?
It happens about once a year doesn’t it? First, figure out whom to blame: Obama or Trump.
In the meantime, you will notice that the hallway, stairwell and door emergency lights will illuminate for about 90 minutes only. They are emergency lights, not stand by lighting. You do have a flashlight app installed on your cell phone don’t you? A flashlight or lantern (with batteries!) is a better option than Glassy Baby candles.
If you have the misfortune to be in our elevator when the power disappears, the teeny tiny Uninterruptible Power Supply attached to our elevator system is intended to keep it alive long enough to normally descend to the lobby, then open its’ door where it will patiently wait for the power to return.
Since our condos have in-floor and or in-wall heating systems, you will not have heat since you do not have electricity to power the pump that circulates your hot water nor power the fans. But your gas fireplace should still ignite via the switch and you can still use the burners on your gas stove if you light the gas manually with a match or lighter. Your oven will not operate as that gas valve is turned on electrically <for the temperature you cannot set manually>.
The inner secured lobby door has a 12v back up battery that allegedly allows it to function for an unknown number of hours. If it declines to operate you will have to enter the inner lobby via the garage door with your common key. Exiting capability will not be affected. Your cell phone may not receive the call made by the lobby access box (which uses a land line that is probably not affected by a local power outage) due to the nearest cell tower not operating throughout extended power outages.
The water sprinkler fire suppression system will continue be functional, although its’ ability to sound the loud alarm(s) when a sprinkler is activated, is not.
The vehicular garage doors will not electrically open or close but you can manually do so by un-securing the steel chain and tediously pull it open or closed. You do not need to be strong to do this, just be patient as it takes a lot of chain travel to fully open or close it.
The building exterior lights and the hallway air exchange fans will not operate at the desired times after the power resumes; their electrical mechanical timers will need to be manually set to the correct time of day.
