Richmond Manor News | February 2019

I guess I wasn’t too far wrong about us getting complacent about our winter weather, the arctic blast was certainly interesting.  Hopefully we are finished with the white stuff for the year. I’m ready for some spring color.

Book Club

Book Club met at Myrna’s home, we talked about Upstairs at the Whitehouse, interesting insight of the everyday workings of a beautiful and historic building.  We had a great turnout, eleven attended.  March 11 meeting will be at Bev’s home (310), we will be discussing The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah.  Again, let Bev know if you plan to go.

Traveling neighbors

Our mini vacation to Orlando area was nice, a nice change from the winter weather we are having here – no, we did not go see Mickey.  If anyone is in the neighborhood try to go to Winter Park and visit the Morse Museum, a beautiful collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s outstanding works.

Edy just came back from another work trip to London.

Tips Du Jour

Removing pesky stickers

This is a novel way of removing stickers from dishware, glasses. Set your hairdryer on high and point it towards the sticker or price tag until the glue softens then peal off the sticker with ease.

Easy greasing cake pans

  • Keep your hands clean while greasing a pan by using a plastic sandwich bag.
  • Wearing the bag like a glove grease the pan.
  • When finished, remove the bag by turning it inside out and neatly discarding it. No more messy paper towels

Sticky Garlic

When mincing garlic, it often sticks to the knife making it a messy job.

Try this hint:  Sprinkle a few drops of olive oil over the garlic, proceed to chop/mince the clove; the oil coats the garlic and keeps it from sticking to either the knife or your hands.

Spreading cold butter

If you want butter for your toast but you forgot to leave it out to soften, try this… use your vegetable peeler to cut a thin ribbon that’s easy to spread on your hot toast.

Birthdays

We missed Andreas birthday in Feb.

March Birthdays

Dixie and David Becker will both be celebrating birthdays

Candid Camera – coming soon to your phone.

New cameras have been installed after the failure of the old system.  We have added cameras to the garage, in addition to the stairwell and lobby cameras which were part of the old system.  Kaare did a great job of researching and installing the cameras.   A big Thank You Kaare. We are testing the system and will be providing instructions for the ability to watch the lobby cameras from your computer or cell phone.

We wish you all a Happy St. Patrick’s Day, watch out for leprechauns lurking about.
