Weather, Climate, Whatever!
I hope you are enjoying the fine weather we are currently experiencing. These days and the upcoming Fall days are what make this such a great place to live. Every place else seems too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.
Book club won’t convene again until Sept. We don’t have a date or who will be hosting the 1st meeting at this time.
Recommended Books
In the Taylor household we have read several books by author Jeff Sharra.. Jeff, is a prolific writer, having written approximately 21 books, all historical novels subject matter from the Revolutionary War to the Korea Conflict Most recently I read The Old Lion, about President Theordore Roosevelt, an outstanding book about an outstanding man. Jerry most recently read two novels about the Revolutionary War, Rise to Rebellion and The Glorious Cause Jeff’s books are very interesting, he makes history come alive. Fun Outings
Several residents of Richmond Manor enjoyed a beautiful warm evening July 12th with “Shakespeare in the (Richmond Beach) Park”. The play was “The Tempest”. The crowd of many could mostly hear thanks to large speakers and attentive crowd.
Wednesday, July 27th we walked on the 11:20 ferry to Kingston to see what’s over there. The approach to the landing was lovely with homes in the hills, a large grassy play area, canoes paddling across a small bay by the ferry. The Crepe store up the hill on the right was doing a land office business and we heard the pizza place just beyond was good. We headed to the Kingston Ale House up the left side of the street. We sat on the shade-covered deck overlooking a small bay with a very light breeze. The lunch menu was extensive, a small schooner of beer on tap was just the right amount. We were surprised and will remember for the next time we go that most of the small number of the stores within easy walking distance of the ferry are open only on Friday and Saturday.
Hurrah for summer weather.

Birthday Celebration
Recently Betty celebrated her 90th birthday. She wrote the following…
I appreciated so much the cards I received and those who were able to come to the open house. It is a privilege to live in our community and the friendliness we enjoy without infringing on others ‘privacy. Thank you for all the kindnesses I have received in the ten years I have been a resident!
Class Reunion
This past weekend I went to my hometown of Ferndale, WA. I went up to celebrate my 60th class reunion. I’m not sure how the time has flown by so fast, it was like yesterday we were walking down the aisle with our gowns and our blue and gold tassels. Leaving the comfort of friends, I had known, some from the 1st grade. We had a small get-together on Friday night at the park where Ferndale was celebrating the 127th Old Settlers Picnic. Saturday, we got together again for a picnic, there were about 50 people there, this included spouses. We had a great time reminiscing about our school years, and what everyone has been doing in the last 60 years? I have gone to all my reunions except the 20th. We have had a great group of people that have done the organizing for these get-togethers, not just 10-year spans but 5 years between the events. We had 90+ graduates in 1963 so our attendance of over 25 graduates 60 years later was pretty good. We had folks from Texas, Boston, Arizona, Alaska, and Oregon and several from communities all over WA.
I had a great time, Sunday I was hoarse, obviously I talked a lot. You may find this unbelievable but at one of the reunions, I think at the 30th one of my classmates asked when I learned to talk? I was so shy in school that he was surprised I found a voice. Some of my classmates confirmed I was very shy.
If you haven’t’ gone to your class reunions I encourage you all to go to your next one. It is a great way to renew friendships which were made during our early years.
Sad News
