We are into fall, a fantastic time of year.
The only problem is it is getting so dark so early and of course will be worse when we go back to Standard on November 3rd
Traveling Neighbors
I think everyone in the building is gone or just coming back from a trip except the Taylors.
Edy made another quick trip to Paris, she didn’t have enough time to do any playing, just work.
Venita and Chuck just returned from a driving trip to Missouri, they visited family and friends and enjoyed some beautiful weather on the way. They did stop at one of our favorite museums, The Cody Museum in Cody Wyoming. If anyone gets near Cody it is a must see, 4 museums under one roof.
Cheri is off to France on a bus tour, I hope she finds all the fantastic things that France has to offer.
Carole is in NYC with her sisters.
Donna is off to Hawaii to get some sun and extend her summer a week or so before coming back to NW fall weather.
Jerry and I are taking a road trip to Riggins, Idaho. We are going to visit family, we have two great grandchildren, one of whom we haven’t had the opportunity to meet yet. Hopefully we will get to see some color as we head over the mountains.
We had a good meeting in which we picked the books we will be discussing this book club season. We met in the Book nook and had a good time chatting about the books that were presented and came up with list of books for the season. Andi made us some wonderful treats to share. We will be having the first Book club get together at Bev’s home on Oct. 14. We will be chatting about a great book named The Women by Kirsten Hannah. I hope everyone enjoyed the book as much as I did.

Most of all, I love the spirit of friendliness, helpfulness and cooperation of my neighbors; secondly, I love the location: beautiful scenery (trees, ocean) convenient to everything.
Something few folks know about me.
In college, majoring in Theatre Arts, I played leading roles in several productions, such as, Linda in “Death of a Salesman,” Countess Aurelia in ” The Madwoman of Chaillot,” etc. I also performed at a community theater in El Paso.
Entertainment -TV
We found an interesting documentary on PBS called Big Cats 24/7.
In Botswana’s wild Okavango Delta, the Big Cats 24/7 team of local and international filmmakers follows lions, leopards and cheetahs day and night. Using the latest filming technology they reveal the cats’ lives like never before. A great series with new episodes added each Wednesday.
Great Book
The Children’s Blizzard by David Laskin. This is an interesting book about a blizzard that happened in January 1888 in the Midwest. Approximately 235 deaths.
January 12, 1888, began as an unseasonably warm morning across Nebraska, the Dakotas, and Minnesota, the weather so mild that children walked to school without coats and gloves. But that afternoon, without warning, the atmosphere suddenly, violently changed. One moment the air was calm; the next the sky exploded in a raging chaos of horizontal snow and hurricane-force winds. Temperatures plunged as an unprecedented cold front ripped through the center of the continent.
Great Find
I have been doing some shopping for our great grandchildren whom we are going to visit next week in Idaho.
I found a great place to do some shopping a consignment shop named
Childish Things
9776 Holman Rd NW
Suite 102
Seattle, WA
206.789.1498
I bought several items; they looked like they have never been worn and a great price. They have a wide variety of gently used children’s clothing along with new items. The service was great, very friendly staff. I will be going back when I want goodies for our little critters.
Another children’s consignment store is
City Kids, Quality Consignments.
9726 Edmonds Way,
Edmonds, WA
425-775-7627
This place is closer, but I have tried to visit it 3 times and haven’t found it open, so I recommend if you want to shop there to call first.
We Feel Smarter Now
Ever drive past a town and think it would be nice to take a look but didn’t have time? We found the time two weeks ago to finally drive into Ashland, Oregon, to attend the Ashland Shakespeare Festival. It was so much better than we’d thought it would be. The Road Scholar program was led by an actress, and by the head of Education for the Festival. Each day had talks about different aspects of theater: about the three theaters, wardrobe, set design, props, stage manager, and two different speakers telling about each play of three plays we’d see. Coriolanus, according to Shakespeare expert Alan Bloom is Shakespeare’s “strangest” play, and not because in this presentation it was an all-women cast. Much Ado About Nothing was in the outdoor Elizabethan theater on a pleasant September evening, where Beatrice and Benedict was urged to “Kiss, Kiss her, Kiss him” by a group of high schoolers enjoying the play. Those in our group who were frequent Shakespeare attendees called Macbeth very moving and the best performance they’d ever seen. Each day following a performance we had the treat of meeting and talking with the actor from the leading role.
We also thoroughly enjoyed the town, their many excellent restaurants, and bus trip to a new winery with fine views of the hills and Rogue Valle
