Several units have had a failure with their smoke alarms. The malfunction has ranged from chirping to actual alarms. Battery replacement has not fixed the problem. The only option is the replacement of the individual smoke alarms throughout the unit.
These alarms are hard wired and plug directly into a pigtail in the installation box. The replacement is simple and the units are inexpensive. They can be purchased at Ace Hardware, Home Depot and Lowes. Another good source is Amazon.com. The prices range from $8 to $50 each depending on the brand and functions of the alarm.
All residents are urged to replace their alarms as soon as possible.
It is also possible that they have failed and will not sound an alarm when needed. So please at least test them. There is a test button on each alarm.
